We're taking a special look back at our former scholarship recipients as the Delta Community Credit Union Scholarship celebrates it's 10th anniversary. Our 2010 recipients share their accomplishments in our latest installment.
Officially done with their undergraduate degrees, our 2010 recipients provide updates on grad school and starting their careers. Read their profiles below to learn more about their personal accomplishments and professional growth.
Alex
Alex is working at Goldman Sachs as a Business Analyst
Name: Alex Hagan
School: University of Florida
Major: Industrial and Systems Engineering, Minor in Business Administration
Academic Achievement: Alex graduated from the University of Florida in 2015. While in school, she was a member of the Florida Blue Key Honor Society. Alex also received scholarships from the Delta Scholarship Fund and the St. Cloud Woman’s Rotary Club based on her academic accomplishments.
Professional Development: Alex is now a Business Analyst for Goldman Sachs. While at the University of Florida, she held internships with General Electric in Home & Business Solutions department and Goldman Sachs in the Human Capital Management department. Alex also served on the leadership team of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority as the Philanthropy Director and the Chief Marketing Officer.
Work-Life Balance: In her free time, Alex volunteers in her local community as part of the Goldman Sachs Community TeamWorks program. She is also training for her first half marathon, which will take place this May.

Name: Kristin Wiggins
School: Northern Arizona University
Coursework: Biomedical Science and Chemistry with an emphasis in Health Pre-Professional
Academic Accomplishment: Kristin graduated Cum Laude from Northern Arizona University in 2013. While in school, she received the Junior/Senior Achievement Award and the Richard F. Shand Award for Outstanding Research in Microbiology from the NAU Biology Department. Kristin also co-authored several published scientific papers and won a first place poster presentation award for the College of Engineering, Forestry, and Natural Sciences’ undergraduate symposium.
Career Growth: Currently, Kristin works as a research associate in the Pathogen Genomics Division of the Translational Genomics Research Institute. She works on a team dedicated to developing diagnostic tools for the rapid and accurate detection of infectious diseases. While in school, Kristin worked as an intern at the Center for Public Health and Clinical Pathogens in the Pathogen Genomics Division and in the Marketing department of Nuvasive, the world’s leader in spine technology advancements.
Community Involvement: Kristin stays involved by volunteering at local animal shelters and hospitals. She also participates in several community outreach programs that inspire young women to participate in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields.
What's Next: Currently, Kristin is working on her Master’s Degree and expects to graduate in 2018. She is studying Biology with a strong emphasis on pathogen genomics, public health, statistics and bioinformatics.

Honestly, without this scholarship, I would not have had the opportunity to flourish as much as I did during my undergraduate studies, and I would not have been able to obtain a position at a world-renowned pathogen genomics center. This scholarship has truly been life changing, and I am forever grateful to the Delta[Community] family for providing me with the means to become the scientist I have always wanted to be.”
