Update: Please check out the most recent blog post for more information about Apple Pay, Android Pay and Samsung Pay.
The introduction of Apple Pay is very exciting. This break-through technology represents a significant advancement in the facilitation of payments, and one we know many of our members are interested in using.
At Delta Community, it is our goal to provide our members with convenient, secure payment tools like Apple Pay. We are actively working to provide this new payment tool and implement the infrastructure required to support this service. The implementation timeline will take several months, but we hope to have Apple Pay available by the fall of 2015.
First, we must work with Visa (which has a heavily booked Apple Pay calendar) to provide the functionality which enables the Apple Pay service to operate and make payment transactions safe and secure. Once this is completed, we can begin implementing the infrastructure to support the service.
We will keep you updated as we learn more about what will be required for our members to begin using Apple Pay successfully with their Delta Community Visa Credit and Debit products.
Here are some things that you should know about Apple Pay:
- Apple Pay will only work on their newest phone, the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6+.
- Apple Pay will only work at the point-of-sale with merchants that have near field communications (NFC) contactless card reader terminals.
- Tokenization (digital encrypted numbers) provides unique numbers which only the merchant and Visa recognize. Therefore, if a data breach occurs with that merchant, only the token for that merchant will need to be replaced, not your credit card number.
Again, we will keep you informed on our progress and we very much appreciate your patience as we move forward in our effort to provide you with the ability to use Apple Pay with our Visa products.
