2012 Scholarship Winners

The Delta Community Credit Union Scholarship is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2016. To recognize this milestone, we are revisiting former scholarship recipients to see the impact of the Delta Community Credit Union Scholarship on their academic lives.

In this update, we're checking in with our 2012 scholarship recipients to learn more about their accomplishments and aspirations. In the profiles below, our 2012 scholarship winners are getting close to graduation and thinking about what comes next.

David

David Caro

Name: David Caro

School: Georgia Institute of Technology

Major: Chemistry 

Academic Achievements: Recently, David received the prestigious Richard W. Fink Memorial Scholarship, an award given to outstanding and academically accomplished chemistry students at Georgia Tech. He was also invited to present his research on polymer fabrication and molecular communication at the Georgia Tech Undergraduate Research Symposium.

Career Growth: David works as an undergraduate research assistant at Precision Biosystems Laboratory on Georgia Tech campus. His research is specifically focused on the Molecular Nano-Communication Networks project. David also participated in a highly selective ExxonMobil LOFT Fellowship.

Giving Back: David is an active volunteer with the Atlanta Mission and the Georgia Tech chapter of Baptist Collegiate Ministries. He also spent three summers as a camp counselor for fourth and fifth graders at a Christian leadership camp called Winshape. 

What's Next: After graduating from Georgia Tech this coming May, David will begin working at a plastics company called PolyOne in their Sales and Marketing division.

Morgan

Morgan Tibbetts

Morgan loves living and working in southern California

Name: Morgan Tibbetts

School: University of California, Santa Barbara

Major: Economics and Mathematics

On Campus: Morgan is actively involved in the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority on UCSB campus and has served as the Financial Assistant, Technical Services Director and Chief Financial Officer for her chapter. She also works as a math tutor for fellow students and served as the student account assistant for the USCB Business and Financial Services department.  

Academic Achievements: After competing against several hundred students in the annual UCSB Business Writing Competition, Morgan and her team were selected as one of the top three entrants for the Schwartz Family Endowed Award for Outstanding Entrepreneurial Business Plans. They presented their winning business plan at the Celebration of Excellence in Professional Communication event.

Professional Experience: In addition to being a full time student, Morgan is also the lead intern for a luxury wedding planner in Southern California called Wedding Kate. She acts as a liaison between the client and the principal planner and provides day of event support..

Future Plans: Morgan expects to graduate in summer of 2016 and plans to find a career in finance or marketing.
